Bathtime!

Daniel had his first official bath today! We decided to give it to him in the kitchen sink since we didn't have his actual bathtub out and ready to go yet. I didn't think he would like it because so far he has not been a fan of being naked or of the sponge baths he's gotten. He was a little upset at first and I think just surprised at being in the water but after a few minutes he was just fine. Apparently being in enough water to keep him warm and actual cover his legs is fun. He actually cried more when he had to get out and be dry and naked than when he was in the water. Silly boy! I'm so happy we can give him real baths now though because I love how good he smells right after he's had a bath.

He did decide to poop though once he got out and was wrapped in a towel...Dan has got those bodily functions down :)

Our First Week

One week old! June 6th, 2014
He loves snuggling with daddy :)
Loves talking and playing with mommy :)

I can't believe my little boy is already one week old as of yesterday! Time truly does go by so fast when you have kids. He is still so sweet and we just love him more and more each day.

This week has been the craziest, longest, most exhausting and happiest and most rewarding week of my life. I feel so blessed to be Daniel's mom and while I get excited about all of the milestones and things he'll learn, I'm also trying to soak up every moment of this stage because I know it won't last forever.

That's My Boy???

One of the shows that Mike and I love watching together is the Dick Van Dyke Show. One of our favorite episodes is when Rob and Laura bring baby Richie home from the hospital but Rob thinks they have the wrong baby because he doesn't look like him or Laura. So a couple days after we got home with Daniel we decided to watch this episode especially since we couldn't decide who he looked more like; especially since they seem to look different everyday.

So I pose the question to you..does little Daniel look more like his mom or dad?

Nicole: 1 week old and 3 lbs heavier

And Then There Were 3!

Our little boy has arrived! He was born on May 30th, 2014. He weighed 5 lbs 10oz and was 17 inches long. He is our little peanut. Daniel is truly our little miracle and is just the sweetest and most perfect addition to our family. We are already so in love and are loving every moment together.

Just a few hours old :)
Our first family picture :)
Just one day old and all bundled up. It was freezing in the hospital....too cold for our guy

Coming home from the hospital

He is the most adorable little boy. Almost all of his newborn clothes are too big for him but thankfully its hot so he spends most of his time in just a onesie and socks anyway. He is so sweet though and we have so much fun taking tons and tons of pictures of him and just loving on him all day long.

37 Weeks :)

I realized I haven't posted anything in a while and a lot has changed and happened especially in just the last 3 days.

37 Weeks :)
- Baby boy could come at any time now and be perfectly fine because at this point everything is there and functioning correctly...let's hope he stays in just a little longer though :)

- I'm still having regular braxton hicks contractions. Sometimes I notice them and sometimes Mike can tell my stomach is tighter but I don't feel anything.

- This weekend I started to notice some swelling in my feel and ankles but it isn't so bad that none of my shoes fit...not yet at least.

- I'm still working out 4 days a week which is great and really helps me feel better.

- I can't bend over very easily anymore. This little boy has nestled his feet into my ribs and so anytime I bend they just get pushed farther up which just isn't comfortable. Sitting for too long is also really hard since is really squishes him. He is running out of room :)

- Mike and I are also so ready for him to be here! We are anxious to meet him and hold him and see what he looks like! (We do know he has hair apparently)

So now for the interesting and some might say exciting but also scary news that we got at our 37 week appointment on Friday. As you can all tell, I am tiny. I have been tiny throughout this entire pregnancy and I was tiny before I got pregnant. I have been measuring small with my stomach measuring about 3 weeks behind what is considered "normal".

Since I am so tiny, they have been worried about the baby growing normally as well. They decided to do an ultrasound to check for growth restriction. The ultrasound showed that he has a healthy heart rate and that he is head down (which makes sense since his feet are right at home in my ribs) and I assured them that he moves all the time. However, they did find that he is tiny. First of all, they said his head and stomach are a little smaller than the normal size for 37 weeks and his arms and legs are shorter than normal. They estimated his current weight to be 5 lbs which is about a pound and a half less than what would be expected at this point. He had dropped from the 42nd percentile down to around the 10th. The 10th percentile or under is cause for concern. At this point they worry that he isn't getting what he needs from me anymore and would benefit more from coming out than being in. They then sent us over to the fetal monitoring clinic with doctors who specialize in the more high risk pregnancies. They did an ultrasound which confirmed his size and they also did a non-stress test. He responded very well to the tests they performed. His heart is strong and from the ultrasound, they can tell that everything is there and functioning well as far as they can tell.

So why the concern? Well in reality he could just be small because his parents are small and he could come out and be just fine. They don't feel that this is a genetic problem or dwarfism since their are no signs for it and I did not test positive for downs syndrome so they don't think it is a symptom of any disorders.

The least likely but biggest concern and the reason they are strongly considering inducing me and having him come early is the possibility of early detachment of the placenta. His blood flow is normal from the placenta to him but they don't know if their is proper blood flow from me to the placenta. If their isn't then he isn't getting the full benefits of nutrition no matter how much I eat. That could be a possible reason for his size and the reason he is smaller than normal. Also, if the placenta were to detach with him inside that would be extremely dangerous. So because of this, we are going back on Tuesday (my birthday) to find out how he is doing. Right now they don't even want me to wait until I am 39 weeks so their is a very good chance I would be induced around 38 weeks which is the 31st of May.

As you can imagine, that information has put us into a bit of panic mode this week end. We basically figured the safest thing to do is to be ready to go by my birthday just in case. So we had 4 days to do what we were expecting to have 3 weeks to do. Hopefully we can at least be safe enough to make it to the weekend so we have a little extra time but we'll see.

Right now we are just trying to enjoy these last few days of it just being the 2 of us but we're also excited to meet our little guy. I would love for him to be inside for as long as he needs to be to be the healthiest he can but if it is safer for him to come now then that is what we'll do. Hopefully, we get some good news on Tuesday, we'll let you know!

Charleston Baby Shower

Last weekend Mike and I went down to Charleston. This was the weekend I had been looking forward to for weeks! My first baby shower! I am so happy that we live close enough right now that I could have a baby shower in Charleston so that I could celebrate this little guy with so many people I care about. It makes me so happy to see how loved our little boy is already!

The baby shower was wonderful! It was simple but fun and that was exactly what I wanted. I didn't share the theme we have for the nursery so it was just decorated for a little boy but Kathy did a great job! I really just wanted a fun party where I could socialize with people I hadn't seen in a while so we only had one game but it was so cute and fun :) It was a brunch so we had breakfast type food which was amazing! I ate way too much but hey I've earned it and little baby E was very happy :) Also, since it was in the morning we had cake pops instead of cake and they were so cute and yummy!

Aren't they adorable! Thank goodness for people more talented than me :)

I totally forgot to get a group picture of everyone who was there but I did remember to get pictures with a few people. It was wonderful to see so many friends though :)

Our little boy got spoiled with some very nice presents and some outfits that I cannot wait to see him in :) It was wonderful to see how loved he is and got me even more excited for him to be here to use all of the things he got!

Thank you so much to everyone who came and celebrated our little boy with us! I know it was a crazy day and so I really appreciate it (still missed those who couldn't make it though). Thank you for all of the support each of you have given us. We feel truly blessed to know so many wonderful people. A big thank you to Kathy for opening her home for the baby shower and to everyone else who helped put it together, it was beautiful and perfect.

Thank you again!
