In the Hospital

We had another first for our family this past week. We had a child in the hospital. Liam was put in the hospital because he was sick. Daniel hasn't been sick enough to go to the hospital but Liam helped us achieve this goal that we didn't want to accomplish.

Last Tuesday we noticed that Liam was being extra fussy and his stomach was really hard. He was also pretty pale. Then we found out he had a slight fever. We called the doctor and made an appointment for Wednesday morning. I took him in and the doctor tested for the flu, strep and RSV and they were all negative but he did have a fever of 100.9 at the pediatrician so the doctor sent us to the ER. When we got there they took his temperature and it was 99.0. They weren't as worried but since it had been higher they wanted to test him for meningitis and a UTI anyway. It is also protocol to observe them for 48 hours when they've had a fever so we had to stay. They did a spinal tap (results were negative), a catheter for a UTI test (also negative) and he also got an IV put in so they could give him antibiotics. I hated watching them put the IV in. They had some issues finding a vein and he was just crying and crying. Then he just looked so sad during the spinal tap. I picked him up and snuggled him every chance I got and he would calm right down and cuddle up to me. He just looked so scared and confused. I hated it! It broke my heart to know he was sick and in pain.

So we were in the hospital for Wednesday, Thursday and most of Friday. He officially had no fever Wednesday night but we still had to wait 48 for the blood culture results and its just protocol for a fever to monitor for that period of time. The worst part was that he didn't want to lay on his back. So the first night we just took turns trying to sleep while the other person sat up and held him so he would sleep. It was also hard though because they had to come in and give him the antibiotics every 6 hours and take vitals more frequently than that. I'm sure his back hurt too from the spinal tap. The bed we had to sleep on was a joke. I'm sure it wasn't made for two people. We found out the best way for both of us to sleep was my head at one end and Mike's head at the other. Thankfully Mike's mom came and sat up with him the second night so we could get some sleep. We were very grateful to her for doing that for us!! That night though Liam would lay in his car seat to sleep so at least we didn't have to hold him all the time.

We also had a nice view of the valley at night. It was nice to just sit and stare out at the view and watch the sunrise. We did have a great night nurse, Ryan, who took great care of us. She was so sweet and got us anything we needed. Liam showed her his appreciation by peeing on her Friday morning :)

We also had a wonderful nurse during the day! Her name was Iggy. She was the best nurse and checked on me all the time and also sat in the room a lot just to talk to me and keep me company while Mike was at work and I was by myself. My parents also came on Thursday to keep me company and hold Liam to give me a break and also so I could rest.

I absolutely hated seeing my baby boy in pain and being sick but I'm grateful that it wasn't anything more serious. Being in the pediatric unit and hearing from parents who'd been there for days and weeks with children and not knowing if they would get to go home made me grateful that we were only there for 2 days and that I have 2 healthy boys. I'm also grateful for sweet nurses who take such great care of the families that have to come to the hospital.

Liam has been doing much better since being home and everyone is happy to have him back home!

No More Pacifier

The pacifier is no more!! Daniel officially gave up his pacifier a few weeks ago. It was the easiest thing we've done with him so far. Daniel has had one pacifier his whole life. He got a winnie the pooh pacifier and he loved it!! It was the only one he would take. We tried to get him to take another one just in case we lost the pooh bear one but he wouldn't do it. Mike and I spent many nights trying to find the pacifier at bed time because he wouldn't go to bed without it.

When he was about 17 months old he only used the pacifier at night or if he was sick. Then we had to start having him sleep with button up shirts all the time because he would throw it but we could string the pacifier between the buttons. Then a few weeks ago, before Liam was born Daniel had a few days of no napping which is strange for him. Then we realized that his pacifier was dying....he had finally chewed a slit in it. We figured that during those few days he was figuring out how to nap without a pacifier. So Daniel killed his pacifier and once he realized it didn't work anymore he was fine to give it up. He handed it back to me one day at nap time and didn't want it at bed time so we took it and he was fine. I'm so glad he realized it was broken and gave it up himself! It made our lives so much easier!

My baby is a big boy now...officially! I'm glad we don't have to keep track of it anymore!

Father's Day

This Father's Day was a lot of fun! I got to spend it with my dad for the first time since 2008! I also got to celebrate Mike becoming a daddy for the second time because Liam was about 2 and a half weeks old on Father's Day! It was so much fun to spend it all together! We had a nice morning at church (it was my first time going since Liam was born) and then we just had a nice relaxing day at home.

Doesn't this little guy look cute!!?!

Papa Williams with the boys :)

Happy Father's Day to all the dads out there! I'm grateful for my daddy and that he has always taken such great care of me and for putting up with me :) He is also such a wonderful Papa to Daniel and Liam, they love him! I love watching them all play together! I love you Daddy!

A special Happy Father's Day to my hubby Mike. He is such a great dad to our boys and such a great husband. He does so much to help with the kids without me even having to ask and our boys love him. He is Dan's favorite person. He is so happy when his daddy comes home! I'm so grateful for everything he does for me and for putting up with my crazy. We love you Mike!

Playing at the park

It is definitely summer in Las Vegas because it has gotten hot! Most of the time its too hot to be outside in the afternoon unless you're in water so we like to go outside in the morning. Daniel loves to go to the park so one morning my parents and I took Daniel to the park. Daniel loves to spend time with his grandma and papa so this was perfect! Daniel had so much fun going down the slides with Papa and swinging with his grandma! He also got very distracted by some dump trucks that were fixing the road outside the park but was happy to swing and watch them. This kid loves trucks so much that nothing, not even the park or grandparents, was going to stop him from watching!

Liam's First Bath

Liam has had his first bath. He was about two weeks old! We did it as soon as his umbilical cord fell off because I wanted him to have one before he had his circumcision. It was hard to tell if he liked it or not. He cried some of the time but their were other moments that he was very content to just sit in the water and relax. We also had to do it around the time he was ready to eat so he was a little cranky because he was getting hungry. Liam had his first bath in the sink just like Dan did though :)

I love giving babies baths! Its such a fun thing to do but I'd forgotten how slippery they are at this age. I can't wait until my boys can take a bath together!

Madame Tussauds

One of the things my parents wanted to do while they are visiting was go to Madame Tussauds wax museum. I was super excited because I've been wanting to go for a while now. I really liked it. Some of the figures were better than others and some you could tell were done when the person was much younger but overall they were all really good. Some were so life like that it was really creepy to stand by them because you thought they might actually start talking and moving.
