East Coast Trip part 5: Boston

We spent Thursday night in Boston. The plan was to spend Friday in Boston, then drive through Rhode Island and go to Newport and then spend the night in Connecticut.

We had some ideas of things we wanted to see but I would've been happy just walking around and exploring the city but it was easier to drive and see the city or at least faster but driving was a nightmare. We went to Bunker Hill first which was part of the Freedom Trail.

Mike, Josh, Stacey and Doug wanted to climb to the top of the Bunker Hill monument, it was 292 steps. I don't like heights too much or confined spaces so I opted to wait on the ground. They got some great pictures for me though of them at the top and of Boston.

We also stopped in the gift shop. It looked really interesting but we had been there for about 5 minutes when a huge group of kids on a field trip came in so we left pretty fast.

I wanted to drive along the Freedom Trail. This is the trail runs 2.5 miles through Boston and it starts at Bunker Hill. It passes by a lot of historic landmarks that are connected to the Revolutionary War. We were able to see the Old North Church which is the location that the "one if by land, two if by sea" signal was given during Paul Revere's ride and it is the oldest church in Boston. We also saw one of the oldest cemeteries in Boston. Since, we were in the car I couldn't get pictures of everything but it was a fun drive.

While we were in Boston Mike wanted to go to the finish line for the Boston Marathon. So we drove to the famous Boylston Street and parked illegally basically in the spot that the bomb went off and Mike and Josh jumped out of car, ran to the finish line and took the picture. Then we got back in the car and left.

More pictures of Boston. Another beautiful city. If it weren't for the winters I could live here.  I enjoyed Boston but the traffic was pretty bad although not the worst we would experience on our trip.
