Daniel and Liam

One of the things I was most excited about before Liam was born was seeing Daniel as a big brother. I had no idea how he would react to Liam. I knew I wanted him to be excited but I also knew he didn't understand what a baby was or what a little brother was. So I was surprised and not surprised by his reaction.

Grandma and grandpa brought Daniel to the hospital around lunch time which in hindsight was probably not the best idea. When Dan got there he was hungry and getting tired so he was not in good first impression mode. We were also still in the delivery room instead of a post partum room. He came in the room with Mike then started crying and wanted to leave. So basically we just let him see Liam and then took a couple pictures. He really just stayed long enough so that grandma and grandpa could meet Liam :) We did get a few pictures though.

Family of 4 :)
We got to go home on Saturday but it wasn't until Sunday that Daniel really started to warm up to Liam. Up until then we had tried to encourage Dan to go see Liam but he would just run away. Then on Sunday he approached Liam and actually started to interact with him! He even shared his ball with him :) Daniel did not want to hold Liam though. When we tried to put Liam on Dan's lap, Daniel proceeded to push Liam off....ah brotherly love.

During the first week of Liam's life Daniel would sit by Liam but he wouldn't really touch him or anything. We did get some cute pictures on Daniel's birthday though. They had some cute big brother/lil bro shirts on :)

On day 6 of Liam's life we had a breakthrough! Daniel actually asked to hold Liam! He ran to the couch and we told him two hands so he held out both arms and sat on the couch with Liam in his lap. When we picked Liam up, Daniel signed 'more' and so we put Liam back. Dan even gave Liam hugs and kisses. It just melted my mommy heart. I just hope they are friends as they grow up. I'm sure they'll fight but I hope they love each other!
