Pioneer Day Extravaganza

We just celebrated Pioneer Day in Utah for the first time. I knew it was a big deal in Utah but I didn't realize how big. Just about every city had some kind of festival going on and a fireworks show. I figured I'd take the boys so they could have some fun. We went to the Pioneer Day Extravaganza in Provo.

We got to the park early and we got super lucky and got a front row parking spot! Yes! I was super excited because this meant I didn't have to parallel park or park on some side street and walk a mile to the park.

The boys and I made the antique fire engine our first stop. It was super loud when kids played with the siren and it scared Daniel. Liam was loving it but Dan wanted to run away. The only way I got him to stay was by showing him a little toy fire truck they had brought for the kids to sit in for a picture. He also got a hat :) That plus a dalmatian made Dan much happier. That is until I asked him if he wanted to sit in the big fire truck. He didn't want to do it until I climbed up with Liam.

Our next stop was the petting zoo. I was expecting a traditional petting zoo but this was cool cause the kids actually got to play with the animals and be with them. Liam loved all of the animals. He tried to pick up the pig and LOVED the sheep! Dan was a bit more reserved. He thought the animals were pretty cool and wanted to be with them but just gave them quick pats.

The high light of the day: pony rides! We waited in line for about a half hour and I was nervous because I didn't think Daniel would want to do it because he has issues with heights and doesn't even like the moving toys at the store. We got to the ponies and I had to hold onto Liam and one of the helpers put Dan on another pony and held onto him. Both boys loved it but Dan was actually sad when it was over and if the line hadn't been so long we would've done it again. Next time buddy!

They had lots of games but the only one we did was the tin can ball game. Dan got the chance to throw 3 balls to try and knock down the tin cans. He ended up knocking one down on his last throw! They had tee pee's set up too and the boys had fun playing in them.

They had lots of booths set up and one of them was for a business that brings dinosaurs to birthday parties. So they had a guy dressed up as a great big Allosaurus and they also had a baby dinosaur. Both boys were a little overwhelmed by the big one but they loved the baby one.

We had so much fun playing on the playground and all the games. After a couple hours we were all exhausted. The boys weren't as tired as me since they got to ride in a stroller but boy were they dirty. It was a lot of fun to go spend the morning with my boys!
