Summer trip- day 3: Yellowstone

We got to West Yellowstone in the early afternoon. We had decided to stay in a KOA there since it was just outside the park and we wouldn't have to stay in tents. We got a 2 bedroom cabin with Mike and I sleeping in the front room and Kate and the boys in the back in bunk beds. Dan and Liam were so excited to stay in a cabin and sleep in sleeping bags in a bunk bed.

I'll be honest...I struggled a bit getting settled. This was my first time going camping so everything was new to me and wasn't exactly what I was expecting. Things got easier as we got unpacked and I figured out how things would work but it was a little tough. It was nice of grandma take the boys to the playground while we figured stuff out.

After we got the car unloaded I wanted to go into Yellowstone instead of just sitting around camp...that is after all why we went on this trip.

So the first place we stopped to explore was Biscuit Basin which was a nice boardwalk trail where we got so see some geysers, beautiful water and smell some sulphur. Liam wasn't really having it at first but he really liked the mustard spring and sapphire pool.

Sapphire Pool- it is 202 degrees...that's why we never touch the water

As we were driving back to camp to make dinner, we saw our first wildlife! 2 buffalo were just hanging out on the side of the road- one on each side.

For our first night in Yellowstone we made pizza pot pies and dutch oven peach cobbler. It was all delicious!

Proof that I did help even though I was learning on the job
After dinner the boys went on a bug hunt with grandma while we waited for dessert. They got to wear head lamps and had a magnifying glass and a whistle and binoculars.

Our cabin was a little warmer than I expected but I was happy to have a mattress to sleep on. Even though the boys were excited they were able to go to sleep :) Also, I need to explain what we did to shower so I remember. I liked the showers they had in the lodge at this KOA. They were more private, cleaner and big enough that Mike could go with me and hold my stuff. Mike was also sweet enough to drive me back and forth so I didn't have to walk around the camp alone in the dark. So it all worked out and I was able to shower every night which was a must! The only thing I really missed was a pillow- well a proper pillow cause the camping one I got was quite lame.
