Summer trip- day 5: part 2- Yellowstone

After the mud volcano, we drove to Lake Yellowstone. The lake is huge and beautiful. The water was freezing and swimming isn't allowed but the boys had fun throwing rocks and sticks in the water. We also had a nice picnic by the lake.

We left when it started to get really windy and on the way back to camp we had a fun animal encounter! First we saw a herd of elk in a field so we pulled over to see them. Then suddenly the grown elk formed a circle around the babies and were all facing outward. Then we see a black bear come walking from the right towards the herd. The bear walked by them and the elk just watched him go and stayed in a circle for a few minutes after he was gone to be sure. So we got to see a bear!

We took some time to go shopping around West Yellowstone and grandma got some souvenirs for the boys. They each got a shirt and picked out an animal- meet Fuzz the wolf pup and Spot the black bear. The boys also had to take a picture by the sign at our KOA cause hey we saw a bear!

Dinner was an adventure on our last night in Yellowstone. We didn't have a stove so we had to get creative to cook our hotdogs, corn, beans and especially Liam's mac and cheese. We cooked the hot dogs inside the dutch oven. The corn we left in the can and put the can on top of 4 briquettes and it got warm. We put the beans in the pot and mike sat by the briquette chimney and held it until they were hot. The mac and cheese was the biggest challenge. First we tried boiling water and just pouring it in but that did nothing. So we cleaned out the bean can and poured the pasta inside and put it on top of some briquettes and amazingly it cooked the pasta! The dinner ended up being super yummy!

After dinner the boys played frisbee and we got some ice cream :)
