The eyes are the window to the soul

People are always telling me how much they love Daniel's eyes and they are one of my favorite things about him. So since I've been trying to learn to take better photos, I decided to practice on Daniel. He is always moving so he was a difficult subject but I got him busy playing with his blocks. I hate that I had to take these inside because the lighting isn't great but its too miserable to go out. I love his eyes though and he's such a cutie.

This one is my favorite!

Weekend Fun

This weekend Mike and I started taking golf lessons. Mike knows how to play pretty well but I haven't ever played. Mike's friend Randall gives golf lessons so he is starting to give us lessons too. Saturday was our first lesson and I think it went pretty well but I was surprised at how hard it is. The pros make it look so easy to just swing the club and hit a ball but its hard and my hands were killing me by the end. It was fun though! Its a fun hobby and I really like that its something Mike and I can do together. We didn't play a round today but just went to the driving range. I had to work on my grip, posture, and finish. I think I hit 5 or 6 good hits that got some good distance but my goal today was just to get the form right.

Of course we couldn't go golfing without Daniel. Maybe he'll be a great golfer someday...who knows but he was such a good boy out in the sun. He played with Mike's golf balls and had fun throwing them on the ground and having Randall pick them up and then throw them back down. He thought it was pretty funny.

After golfing we were pretty gross so we went to the pool. We had made plans to have our friends Brianna, William and there cutie Ian come to the pool with us. I know they don't look like they're having fun but both Dan and Ian were little fish and had so much fun in the water. It was a little cloudy when we got there but then the sun came out and it felt so good in the water. The only annoying part was some kids who were splashing around us a bit to much. I wish they had moved away from us a bit but they got better after a little while. This definitely beats coming to the pool by myself though. Dan had more fun with other people to play with and I liked having friends to talk to and Mike.

After the pool we all rested and watched Dan walk around the apartment. He is getting so much more confident. He has been taking a few steps here and there by himself for a few weeks but tonight he was really cruising and getting brave. I think he was taking 6 or 7 steps on his own. Its so much fun to see how excited he gets when he lets go and walks on his own. He's so proud of himself.

After Daniel went to bed for the night Mike and I cuddled up on the couch and watched The Giver. It was such a fun and relaxing Saturday :) I wish we could have Saturdays like this more often.

Pool time

It has been so hot and humid so far this summer. That means we've been spending more time at our pool trying to cool off. We've been a few times but the first time we went to took our friends Bri and Reagan. It was Reagan's first time in the pool and Daniel's first time this summer. They both looked so cute in there swim suits!

The pool was a little cool so Dan was a little upset when he first got in but it didn't take long for him to adjust and then he was LOVING it! He was splashing and kicking and laughing at Mike and I pushing him around in his seat. Reagan was happiest when Bri was holding her and she actually fell asleep while we were there so Bri walked around the pool holding her :)

We had a lot of fun with friends at the pool even though we weren't there too long. Between Reagan falling asleep and a storm coming in, we had a short visit but it was the first of many trips to the pool this summer :)

While dad's away

So at the end of June Mike went away for 4 days to Las Vegas to go on an interview and look for possible office space and apartments for us when we move (more on that later). I didn't advertise this because I didn't want people to know it was just me and the boy but now that he's home I want to share some of the things we did while daddy was away.

Daniel and I are very happy to have Mike home again. We stayed busy during the days (trips to Target, friends coming over and playing, errands, reading lots of books, going for walks and practicing walking) but we missed daddy. Dan was very clingy with Mike for the first few days after he got home and it was so cute. I love my sweet boy though and it was fun having some mommy/Daniel time for a few days.

Taylor Swift

Last Christmas Mike got me tickets to see Taylor Swift in concert! I was so excited because I love her but I had to wait until June to go. So finally after waiting for what felt like years, June 8th finally arrived! My mom was kind enough to stay after Dan's party and watch him while we went up to Charlotte since we weren't going to be back until after midnight.

We decided to pack dinner since we didn't want to have to park too far away from the concert and we also stopped by Cheesecake Factory for dessert.

So confession time- this was my first concert. I know, its sad that I'm 25 and had never been to one (at least that's what someone said). I was super excited and even though we were pretty high (definitely not as high as we could have been) I think Mike got us great seats because we were almost lined up perfectly with the center of the stage. I kept thinking how much it would stink to be up high and off in the corner. The concert was amazing! We sang along to every song and danced almost the entire time! She put on a really good show. The effects were great and I loved that we had bracelets that lit up and flashed different colors for every song. I was also really impressed with how good she sounded. You never know if someone will be good live but she was awesome :) Thank you sweetie for a great date night! One item less on my bucket list and it was a success!

This wasn't from our seat but its close

When the Grandparents Come

Daniel loves to go to the park. He loves the swing the most but he's also starting to like the slide more now that he's getting bigger. Since grandma and papa were here for the weekend we took a trip to the park. Daniel had fun swinging with papa and having grandma push him on the swing. He loves having us stand in front of him and make funny faces at him (unless he notices the camera of course then that's a bit of a distraction).

We love having grandma and papa come visit!

4th of July

We had a quiet July 4th this year. My parents came up to visit which was fun but we decided to stay home. Last year since Daniel was only a few weeks old we went over to Greenville but this year since we have a very active boy who can't quite walk on his own yet and doesn't know its a holiday, we decided to stay home and just do sparklers.

We spent the day playing games, watching movies and we also went to Strawberry Hill. After a yummy dinner (we had the traditional burgers, fruit, potato salad, baked beans and pie for dessert), we went to the park and had a lot of fun playing with Dan and then we did sparklers with him. He didn't get too excited and mainly just seemed confused. He luckily didn't try to touch them like I thought he would. Mike did help him to hold one but he still seemed a bit concerned. That made me happy that we didn't go to Greenville, I think he may have been scared of big ones. I guess we'll find out next year :)

Daniel also started doing something new at dinner on the 4th. For dinner I made him a plate of potato salad, baked beans, watermelon and strawberries. He started eating the beans first and was doing great. Then my mom gave him some fruit and this boy loves fruit. So he inhaled that like it was the last fruit on earth but then he wouldn't eat the beans or potato because he could still see the fruit. So once he finished the fruit he proceeded to eat the beans and potato salad until I cut up some more watermelon then he stopped and wouldn't eat a bite until the fruit was gone. He has been doing that everyday since. Its pretty cute. He isn't picky about what he eats (he eats just about everything) but if he sees fruit he has to eat it first :)

We had a great 4th though. I was great to celebrate Independence Day together and remember all of the wonderful things about this country and the sacrifices that were made so that we can live in this country and have the freedoms we enjoy.
