Fort Williams

We explored another fun place in Maine over the weekend. We went to Fort Williams park to see the Portland Headlight. We couldn't visit the headlight because its only open in the summer but we probably won't cause when the park is in operation it costs a lot to go. We had fun going to see it though and playing on the beach. The boys loved throwing rocks in the water. We just had to put them on opposite sides of the beach haha

We also found a swing set and let the boys swing while staring at the ocean...not a bad view. The fort was cool to see too. I love the view of the ocean and I could've just sat and stared at the ocean for hours. We live in a beautiful place!

Springtime

Its finally nice weather here in Maine! The past few days have been sunny and warm and we've been loving it. We've taken full advantage of the sunshine and warmth by only being in the house when we have to be. We've gone on playdates and been outside a lot. We love the park! We found a new one by our house. I think the boys would've stayed on the swings all day!

Big truck day

The Topsham library had a big truck day last weekend. They had a fire truck, an ambulance, a police car, a back hoe and some other construction equipment. Daniel was super excited! He loved sitting in the trucks and "driving" them. Liam was surprisingly hesitant. He didn't want to sit in any of the trucks but he liked looking at them. Daniel asked if he could climb the ladder...silly Daniel.

Girls trip

Last weekend I got to go to the temple with some friends from church. It was so nice to go to the temple with friends. I haven't gone with a bunch of women before and it was fun to be there with them.

Family time

Now that we've had a couple nice days in a row we're trying to get out and explore more of Brunswick. Mike found a nice trail near our house that's by the river. The boys love picking up sticks and rocks and throwing them in the water. Its a really nice trail. We've also been enjoying our backyard and playing T-ball again.

Hair cuts

Liam got his second haircut last weekend. He was not happy about it at all. He screamed until a couple minutes into the hair cut. Once I distracted him with videos of himself on my phone he calmed down. Daniel doesn't like getting his hair cut either so the whole time Daniel was watching and telling us that he didn't need a hair cut.

Forts

The boys and I built our first fort. Well its not really Daniels first fort but before this he screamed every time I built one and wouldn't go in so this was the first successful one. We had some rainy days and some really cold days last week so since we were stuck inside we built forts and read books and played in the fort.

Pre school

I have been wanting to get Daniel into preschool for a while now but we couldn't find one that we liked or one that we thought was worth the money they were charging. So I found a curriculum that I liked and I started doing preschool at home with Daniel about 2 months ago.

I've really enjoyed doing it with him everyday. Its fun to watch him learn and grow and he also gets some one on one time with me. Each unit is 2 weeks long and we do letters and shapes and counting all related to a broad topic like apples, colors, clothing, transportation and lots of other fun topics. We also read a lot of books. I've been getting so many books from the library that the librarians know me and just go get my books that I have reserved before I even ask!

Our first unit was all about apples. So we sorted apples and we read lots of books about apples. We counted apples and we rolled apples and we learned the letter A. One of my favorite parts about it was when I hid the letter A around the house and Daniel had to go on an A hunt. At the end of the unit we planted apple seeds and made an apple cobbler! He did such a great job with this unit. He learned the letter A really quickly and was able to find it in books and he did an awesome job with sorting and learning new words to describe things.

We worked on fine motor skills- he had to poke each spot with a toothpick

The second unit was all about colors! I was so excited because Daniel loves colors and knows all of them so I knew he would enjoy it. We learned the letter R for rainbow and read fun books like Rainbow Fish and Brown Bear Brown Bear. By the end of the first week he could read Brown Bear Brown Bear to me.

We also practiced sorting with fruit loops and making graphs. We talked about which color had the most and least. We also got to practice mixing colors after we read Mouse Paint.

We're currently in his fourth unit and he's doing well with his letters. He finds them everywhere now. He is still struggling with counting but little by little its improving. His vocabulary is growing too and we're working on getting him help with his speech so hopefully that will help too. Its great to watch him learn though and see how excited he gets when he knows he got it!
