Mike and I got home on Thursday night but we spent most of Friday in Charleston with my family. We found out that the Nina and Pinta were downtown at Patriots Point. The two ships sail all over the country so that people can see the ships and learn more about Columbus.
The Nina is a replica of the ship that Columbus sailed on to America in 1492. It is tiny and is only 65 feet long and the width is only 7 feet! The water was pretty rough that day because it was so windy. I haven't been on boats very much so I don't have very good sea legs and I really didn't enjoy being on the Nina. It was pretty cool to see though. It is run by a crew of 5 people who volunteer to do the tours. It's a manual rudder too so in rough waters its really tough to sail. I wish we could've seen the sails down but in the harbor they can't but it was still fun!
The Pinta is not an exact replica of the ship but is 15 feet longer and 8 feet wider than the original. This one was my favorite and I handled it much better than the Nina.
It was fun to go see the ships and I guess Daniel had a bit too much fun cause he passed out!
It was a fun and relaxing way to end our Spring break trip :) Then we reluctantly headed home. As happy as I was to be back home with Daniel and its always nice to sleep in my own bed again, I was sad to have to go back to reality.
