Happy 2018 everybody! Mike and I had made plans with friends but their kids got sick so they had to cancel. So it was just us this year. We didn't have the boys stay up so once they were in bed by 8 we partied until midnight. We ate yummy treats and played games on the Wii and watched lots of Friends.
I had a totally different attitude going into 2018 than I did going into 2017. 2016 was a rough year for us so when it came time to celebrate New Years last year, I felt like "great so tomorrow will be just like today...crappy". I wasn't in the best place. 2017 started rocky for sure but steadily improved through the year to the point that I can say it was a great year. I am excited to see what 2018 brings.
This brings me to my New Years resolutions! I think resolutions can be a great thing but honestly I think any day can be a great day to make the decision to change and be better. I also believe that for a resolution to be accomplished it needs to involve a change in the person. It has to be a real commitment but that commitment to try something new or make a positive change in your life can happen all year long!
I've made a few but I'm only going to share a couple.
My first resolution is to better understand who I am. I feel like ever since I became a mom I have lost sight of who Nicole is. I know that if I can take the time to find a purpose in this world other than being a wife and mother (which is the most important) than I will ultimately be a better wife and mother because I will be happier. So I want to pursue some of my interests. Like learning to sing or taking cooking classes. I also want to cultivate my relationship with the Savior through studying the scriptures and the words of the prophets daily and with more passion in my study and more effort to really learn so that I can better teach my children and be a better example.
My second resolution is to look the way I want to look and feel the way I want to feel. I want to feel good and I want to look good. I don't need to lose weight but I can still take better care of myself and appreciate my body more by putting better things into it. I want to learn boxing so that I can get stronger and I also want to eat better and work through some of my anxiety about eating so that I can feel better and like myself more.
Happy New Year! I wish everyone luck as we go through this year and remember that even if you have a bad day, don't give up. Try again tomorrow. You only fail when you stop trying :)
